I have been on a hunt for a new primer for awhile now and it was bound for me to find out about "Nivea Aftershave Balm". "Oh but wait that's not a primer... That's men's after shave balm!" Yes that is correct, it is for men and it's not a primer. BUT! it can be used like one! I heard about this from a YouTube guru called Nikki tutorials, I actually heard her talking about it in her monthly favourites video. She mentioned that she went away and she forgot a lot of her makeup as well as skin products, she saw her partner putting something on his face and wondered what that was and decided to use it for a base for her foundation (primer). One of the ingredients in the product is Glycerin, which makes whatever you put on top stick.
So, the difference in my review from others is that I've tried both original and sensitive Nivea men aftershave balm. I actually tried the original one first since my brother had it already. The bottle has 100 mL 3.3 fl. Oz. in it which I thought it was amazing considering it retails for 7-8$ before tax. I applied it all over my face like I normally would with a primer. First thing, I noticed when I applied it was the scent, it was strong. It smelled like a man? (Haha) I'm not sure how to describe the scent... aquatics? I waited till it got a little tacky and applied my foundation right after as well as the rest of my face. It was...................... GORGEOUS! My makeup never looked so good! It lasted all day and there was no patchiness or running of my foundation which usually happens on my nose for me since it's so oily!
I finally got my hands on the sensitive one, which is what Nikki tutorials used and I gave it a go. I love that the sensitive one had no drying alcohol which I noticed right when I looked at the bottle since it was put on the right down corner. It was a lot lighter than the original and the scent wasn't as strong either which I enjoyed because my nose is quite sensitive but the smell did go away for both. It lasted as well, but I felt that my make up looked a lot better with the original like it literally did not budge! I felt with the sensitive one it was a lot lighter, if I ran a tissue over my blush it would come off a bit as for the original one I felt it wouldn't!
The only thing is that the original one has alcohol which personally I'm not a fan off, and it's way too strong for your skin. I wouldn't recommended it and I had no idea until I noticed my skin was getting a lot drier which I realized after was due to the alcohol in the original one. The sensitive one works just as good and you get a lot of product, I will continue to use it because I loved that it was a lot lighter.
Thanks for reading! Please let me know how your experience went.
X,
Jess
